Although large sections are close to the Dyke itself, the Path is longer, and in some places passes at some distance from the earthworks. To this end the path is clearly marked with alternating red and orange sections. Except where the trail passed through or close by villages and towns it is inevitable that you will have to deviate a fair bit from the trail to find a bed for the night.
